Federal vs State Regulations: How Australian Law Works
Under Australian federal law, delta-9-THC is classified as a Schedule 8 (Controlled Drug) substance under the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) Poisons Standard. This classification allows doctors to prescribe cannabis medicines under the Special Access Scheme (SAS-B) and Authorized Prescriber schemes.
State laws govern individual possession and enforcement. While the ACT has decriminalised personal possession of dried flower, edibles and high-potency concentrates remain restricted under general state drug acts in NSW, VIC, QLD, WA, SA, and TAS.
